About mirosta

mirosta is a coffee magazine with no shop and no rankings that somebody paid for. We write about what happens in the cup and build tools that run in your browser.

Why mirosta

The name comes from the Italian mia rosta, my roast. Because that is what this is about: coffee is one of the few foods where you can have every step in your own hands, from green coffee through the roast to the grind and the water. mirosta explains those steps so that you can carry them out at home.

How we work

Our guides are based on brew ratios and temperatures that have proved themselves in roasteries and cafés, not on manufacturer specifications. Where we give figures, they are reference points for getting started, not dogma. We recommend no brands and link to no shops. When we praise or criticise a design, it is because of its engineering.

The tools

The brew calculator, the caffeine calculator, the aroma wheel, the roast level explorer, the brewer finder and the coffee type quiz run entirely in your browser. There is no tracking, no cookies and no third party servers. What you enter stays with you.
