Coffee and rain
Coffee and rain have something in common, say the people behind this project: both have a way of becoming part of the rhythm of the day. That observation has led to a collaboration that looks unusual at first glance. La Marzocco, the espresso machine maker from Florence, has teamed up with Rains, the Danish lifestyle brand known for its minimalist approach to weatherproof design.
The two brands come from different worlds, yet by their own account they share a focus on function, lasting quality and thoughtful design. The result is the Rains x La Marzocco Apron, a limited-edition barista apron that takes the signature Rains technical fabric behind the counter.

Made for long shifts
The apron was designed around the reality of working at the espresso machine. It is fully waterproof and easy to clean, with a relaxed, adjustable fit that keeps up with long shifts and constant movement. From pulling shots and steaming milk to the many steps taken behind the bar during a day, every detail is meant to have a purpose. The hardware is a good example: it doubles as hooks, so a cloth or towel is always within reach.
Anyone who works a portafilter knows the problem. Between knocking out pucks, tamping and steaming, coffee or milk keeps ending up on clothes, and the cloth for the steam wand is rarely where it is needed. How the work at the machine unfolds step by step is described in our portrait of the espresso machine.

A Linea Mini from the workshop
The apron is part of a wider collaboration. It comes with a specially designed Linea Mini by Officine Fratelli Bambi, made exclusively for Rains stores. Together, the two pieces are meant to bring the Scandinavian Rains approach to technical materials together with La Marzocco's Italian design and espresso culture.
Officine Fratelli Bambi is the bespoke workshop of La Marzocco. It is based in the Accademia del Caffè Espresso on the hills of Pian di San Bartolo just north of Florence, in the historic factory where the brand's machines were once built. Its name recalls the original workshop where the Bambi brothers, the founders of La Marzocco, built their first machines. On a bespoke machine, hand-formed panels replace the original bodywork. According to the company, the engineering underneath stays the same: the same saturated groups and the same thermal stability. Maintenance and spare parts remain available for at least ten years after a model is discontinued.
Launch in Copenhagen
The collaboration launched on 8 October 2026 with a launch experience at the Rains flagship store in Copenhagen. The brands sum up the idea in a single thought: different worlds, connected by the belief that design should work for the people who use it every day. For a maker whose machines baristas rely on through the busiest service, that is a natural stance. And for anyone making espresso at home, it is a reminder that good tools at the counter do not stop at the machine.
